Are changes coming to BC3's goals and visions statement? These statements that often help decide whether or not a student and the school will be compatible might have a new look by next semester.

To be prepared and accommodating to the community, BC3 administrators held strategic planning focus groups with local officials, teachers, and for students on April, 22. These were all part of a Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats (SWAT) analysis.

A questionnaire was taken by all the focus group participants. The questions asked were, what are BC3's weaknesses, strengths and pressing needs that face people? Also asked, what problems could harm BC3 if nothing was changed and what opportunities BC3 would create for the community in the next five years. Finally, what is your vision of BC3 five years from now?

"One piece of it, the changing of the goals and visions," said, Steve Catt, Executive Director of Work Force Development at BC3, "We're tweaking them, not changing them … looking at them to see if they are adequate for what the college is going for right now and going forward."

Here's the Vision Statement found on the BC3 main page website along with the goals of the college  Butler County Community College strives to be a provider of choice for quality  education and training. The College will be recognized for:

• Student centered education committed to excellence in teaching and learning.
• Affordable, responsive and innovative programs.
• Leading regionally in workforce development, life-long learning and public  safety.
• Improving the quality of life for the communities we serve.  The college has 9 goals; community, student focus, goal achievement, learning, institutional culture, physical environment, affordability, technology, and continuous improvement.

"First and foremost, it is the right thing to do in any dynamic organization – including ours as an institution of higher education," said Dr. Nicholas Neupauer BC3 President, in regards of why the college was looking to change the goals and vision statement.

"As required by our accrediting agency [Middle States Commission on Higher Education] as well as the Board of Trustees," Dr. Neupauer said, "it is important that we not only identify key strategies for the College to pursue, but also review our mission, vision and goal statements."

There is a review and analysis of all the data from the strategic planning focus groups on Dr. Neupauer's desk. Dr. Neupauer, Dr. Catt and Susan Faseyitan, Dean of Assessment Projects, have a meeting planned at the end of the month, to decide BC3's course of action.

"When completed," Dr. Neupauer said, "we will announce to our various internal and external publics." Dr. Catt said if he had to guess a finish date it would be around the end of the semester.
