On April 15, five students revamped the bench atop the hill near the observatory and entrance to the Allen Imhoff Fitness Trail on Butler County Community College's main campus.

The project was performed as a community service project for Professor David Moser's Small Group Communications Class.

The five students, Whitney Camp, Nathanael Hooks, Brian Zeleznik, Andy Mellinger, and Kayla Dunlap, rearranged their schedules to perform the project out of the classroom.

"I see it as a real world experience. In addition to completing the project, the students must do an analysis of roles, leadership skills, and problems," said Professor Moser.

The group decided to use the project to improve something on campus. They contacted Maintenance Groups Coordinator Edward Stark, who suggested rebuilding the bench.

After clearing the bench of brush over a four hour period, the quintet replaced the rusty nails and old bench with new wood and a fresh coat of paint.

Zeleznik commented, "We all worked together as a team and each did our part in making it a nice spot to sit and relax."

"It was a good thing we did for the school. Our group really pulled it together and did a great job," said Mellinger.
