The Butler County Community College Board of Trustees voted unanimously to voluntarily enter the county's lawsuit against County Controller Jack McMillin at their meeting on April 21.

McMillin is withholding funds from BC3, requesting the College have an independent cost analysis performed to assure taxpayer money is not being used to fund out-of-county campuses.

Contrary to prior reports in the media, the cost analysis has not been authorized at this time. "The Board of Trustees would have to approve such an action," said BC3 legal counsel James Coulter. The analysis has not been completely ruled out, however.

According to Coulter, BC3 decided against the analysis, which would cost the college an estimated $20,000. "The college is in firm belief that the [county's] money is staying inside the county," said Coulter.

The controllers filed a lawsuit on April 14, McMillin has twenty days to respond, reported the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Upon a response an Injunctive Relief may be filed, in order to accelerate the court process, stated Coulter.

The Cube will have further coverage in the upcoming weeks.
