Steel Magnolia

Lindy Winters

Lindy with Meghan and Joshua of Steel Magnolia

I'm back again and yes with another Country music story. Not sure what it is, but Country music makes me want to write, so here it goes.

So if I would ask you, "Do you know about Steel Magnolia?" Some of you might say it's a pretty good movie with Sally Field, or hopefully you would say a talented duo that won Country Music Television's (CMT) So You Think You Can Duet. The duo is made up of twenty-three year old Meghan Linsey and twenty-eight year old Joshua Scott Jones. After winning So You Think You Can Duet, Steel Magnolia signed with Big Machine Records (Big Machine Records is home of Taylor Swift, Reba, Trisha Yearwood and more). Now the talented duo has a single on the Radio, "Keep on Loving You" (if you listen to Froggy Radio, you should know the song) and will have a CD out in the spring. I did have the opportunity to meet them when I was in Nashville for the CMA awards in November, but I did have the opportunity again, LAST NIGHT, January 22, 2010 at the Rhythm House Café in Bridgeville. It was a free all age show with them and Gloriana (They opened for Taylor Swift and won AMA's breakthrough artist of the year and beat Lady Gaga) presented by FROGGY radio. Now that you know a little bit more about Steel Magnolia, I'll get to my point with the story.

A couple of weeks ago I was surfing the net and checked out Froggy's website and saw an advertisement for an all age froggy "hoppy" hour show featuring Gloriana, Steel Magnolia, and hometown artist Sarah Marince. Of course I knew I would be in attendance. I checked out Steel Magnolia's website and decided what the heck to e-mail them about the show. I figured getting an e-mail back would be like me moving to Nashville and becoming a country singer, ha-ha not going to happen (not the singing part anyway). A few days later I checked my e-mail and I had a new message, I figured it was junk or a chain message but I opened it up and what do you know, it was from Steel Magnolia!!!! Meghan took time out to write back to me. When I met the in Nashville I will tell you this much they were so unbelievably nice but for her to write me back I was shocked. A celebrity writing me back? Crazy I know. Meghan wrote back asking me where the show was going to be because It has not been put on their calendar yet so of course I give her the information that I know and she wrote back AGAIN saying that she found out about it and her knowing that I wanted to meet them again, kindly told me she would put me on their meet and greet list and asked me how many people I wanted to bring. Once again, I am shocked I am having this conversation with her; I love Steel Magnolia and never thought this would happen. Days go by and we messaged back and forth one or two more times. She is such a nice girl! She wrote back to let me know that there was no special list like she thought to be on to meet them because they were going to meet anyone who came out to the show but she wanted me to meet them and come up and tell them it was me. It was a great feeling having this conversation and she would even write "can't wait to meet ya". She knows how to make her fans happy.

So I get to the show, they take the stage and wow they start off and it's amazing. The guys are chanting for Meghan and the girls have all their eyes on Josh, he is a looker (sorry Meghan), oh and I forgot to mention, THEY ARE A COUPLE! The chemistry that they have on stage is unbelievable. Through ALL of their songs you can tell they are so much in love and happy to being doing what I would assume would be their dream together. They had so many fans there for them, it was great. After they were finished, Gloriana hit the stage and was amazing of course. Finally it was time to meet Steel Magnolia, again.

Because of Froggy I had a wristband to go backstage and meet Gloriana. While I was waiting to meet them, Steel Magnolia was in the same room and I walk over and said "Hi, I am the one who's been messaging you" to Meghan. Right away she knew who I was! She knew my name! And introduced me to Josh! WOW WOW WOW what a night. They signed the picture I had taken with them in Nashville and they were so nice. They made me feel like I was more than just a fan I was their friend which was so cool. I got to talk to them for a few minutes and I don't think I have ever met such kind talented people. I asked Josh if they were going to be touring this summer, he replied that they would be back in Pittsburgh in July!! I told them I'd be there and he looked at me with his curly locks and said "You Promise?" When he said that to me I don't know what it was but my heart dropped, it was like he actually cared if I was coming. Meghan gave me a hug when she left and told me to keep in touch. I was pretty much in awe from that. It made my night and started my 2010 year off to a great start.

None of this could have been possible though without Froggy for having this show. The radio hosts that I talked to were amazing and the one host gave me advice for my future. I thank them for giving me this experience to meet Steel Magnolia and Gloriana. So everyone reading this should definitely check out www.froggyland.com and listen to them on air. Also, hopefully now if someone would ask you about Steel Magnolia, everyone would say a talented duo that is new and upcoming but will be rocking the stage everywhere they go. Good thing Brooks and Dunn is calling it quits because they have competition now, and watch out Sugarland, Steel Magnolia is hot and on fire. I can't wait to watch them grow! Good luck to them in the future. I can't wait to see them perform again. Oh by the way for the movie buffs out there who have seen previews for Valentine's Day, hitting theaters Feb. 12th , Steel Magnolias hit song "Keep on Loving You" Is on the soundtrack if you want a sneak peek before their CD comes out! www.myspace.com/steelmagnoliamusic. Check them out.
